WELCOME TO RESILIENCE, INCLUSION, SUPPORT, EMPOWERMENT (RISE) GBS
Helping underserved youth with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) find hope, resources, and community.
THE REALITY FOR UNDERSERVED YOUTH IN THE U.S.
Untreated Depression
54% of youth on Medicaid/CHIP with major depression received no treatment at all.
Rural Healthcare Gaps
66% of health professional shortage areas are rural, leaving many teens without access to specialists.
Healthcare Access Barriers
42% of Hispanic people – including youth – report never having visited a medical provider.
"As a teenager, I was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (a term I had never heard before). The sites I searched about this condition were written for adults and medical professionals, not teens like me. I was feeling alone. I was afraid. I was confused. I quickly realized that if you lack financial resources, a solid insurance policy, and access to an excellent hospital, your chances of survival decrease. I therefore created RISE GBS to give underserved youth with this condition a community, resources, and, most importantly, a voice."
OUR MISSION
“Our mission is simple, No teen should go through Guillain-Barré Syndrome alone – or without access to the care and resources they need to thrive.“
“Disclaimer: We’re here to share support and information, not medical advice. The content on RISE GBS isn’t written by a doctor or healthcare professional – but someone who has lived through this disease. If you have GBS or any health concern, talk with a qualified healthcare provider before making decisions about your care.“
