WHY RISE GBS EXISTS
RISE GBS was founded by Luke Salome, a teenager who endured GBS firsthand. This condition turns your life upside down, and if you don’t have support, the journey becomes overwhelming. That is why this organization supports underserved teenagers with this condition and empowers them every step of the way.
OUR FOUR PILLARS
Resilience
Building strength during long recoveries through mental health support and adaptive strategies.
Inclusion
Making sure underserved youth aren't ignored by the medical system and receive equitable care.
Support
Providing clear, practical guidance when families feel lost and overwhelmed by the diagnosis.
Empowerment
Helping teens advocate for themselves in school and at the doctor to ensure their needs are met.
Without resources, recovery becomes almost impossible.
BARRIERS WE ADDRESS
RESEARCH
RISE GBS is both personal and research-driven. As an independent project, I am researching socioeconomically underserved youth with Guillain-Barré Syndrome to document how the lack of systemic support adversely affects their recovery.
Longer Recovery Times
Why underserved teens face longer recovery times compared to peers.
Resource Barriers
How being unable to access physical therapy and care leads to decline.
Policy Solutions
What policy changes could help level the playing field for families.
