The Reality for Underserved Youth in the U.S.

54%
of youth on Medicaid/CHIP with major depression received no treatment at all
66%
of health professional shortage areas are rural, leaving many teens without access to specialists
42%
of Hispanic people – including youth – report never having visited a medical provider

Strength in Every Step Forward

Just like every young athlete pushing through challenges on the field, teens with Guillain-Barré Syndrome deserve the chance to rise, recover, and thrive. At RISE GBS, we believe resilience isn’t only about statistics — it’s about giving real youth the support they need to keep moving forward.

My Journey with Guillain-Barré Syndrome

“As a teenager, I was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome — a term I had never heard before. The sites I searched about this condition were written for adults and medical professionals, not teens like me. I was feeling alone. I was afraid. I was confused. I quickly realized that if you lack financial resources, a solid insurance policy, and access to an excellent hospital, your chances of survival decrease. I therefore created RISE GBS to give underserved youth with this condition a community, resources, and, most importantly, a voice.”
